Two new ideas I learned about the Pompeii Eruption: 1.Warnings began on August 24 at noon; they could feel the tremors and see the volcanic column rise above Vesuvius, some evacuated Pompeii but others chose to ignore the signs that the volcano was going to erupt. 2.The third Pyroclastic surge was the first to reach Pompeii, it struck and buried the entire region at 7:30am on August 25 AD 79. One Navigation Strategy: On the Interactive Timeline Website of Pompeii there is a great navigation tool. You can click on the significant time frames on Aug. 24 and 25 to find out the progress of the eruption! One Reliable Source: This timeline is provided by The Field Museum, if you go to its homepage you can read “Research and Collections” and the “Copyright Information” which both provide information about how and why the information provided is reliable. One Informational Feature: The timeline was easy to navigate and gave small, simple summaries of information about each time frame. It also provided an interactive map and pictures which showed the eruption and its progress.

We will be having a class discussion tomorrow where everyone will share a little about what they have learned.
